About Marshall Amps

Marshall Amps are probably the most iconic amp brand of all time. The sight of the iconic wall of black and gold Marshall amps and speaker cabinets, backing up some of the biggest players of all time, has ensured Marshall amps their place in rock history, mythology and legend. Jim Marshall developed the first Marshall amp, released in 1962, to answer the requests of the burgeoning scene of young rock musicians in swinging 60's London looking for a more powerful amp with increased volume and more gain. The results have seen Marshall amps gracing the stages behind generations of guitar legends, from Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, to Angus Young and Richie Blackmore, to Joe Satriani and John Frusciante.

Founded in London by Jim Marshall in the early sixties, Marshall Amps have become known for their distinctive ‘mid-pushed’ tone. This means that the mid-range is louder than the bass and treble. This is perfect for rock music as it cuts through the mix like a knife and gives guitar solos a singing, vocal quality. Later Marshall Amps, such as the JCM800 and JCM900, produced more gain and were used by such bands as Guns ‘n’ Roses, Metallica and Megadeth.

More than just a sound though, Marshall amps have continued to develop some of the leading technologies in guitar amps, ensuring the prevalence of high quality effects loops, multiple channels and footswitchable settings. Marshall amps are now available in a huge array of options, including combo amps, heads and cabs, and their huge range includes the classic valve amps as well as generations of practice amps, solid state amps and modelling amps too. There's a Marshall amp for every player.

These days, popular Marshall guitar amps include the DSL Series affordable and versatile all-valve amps; and the MG Series, brilliant practice amps for beginners.
