Product Overview
Here we have a perfect reproduction of the guitar used by Frank Zappa during his 1973 Roxy theatre concerts, namely the Gibson SG Frank Zappa Roxy SG in Heritage Cherry including a couple of personal modifications that Zappa had added to his original guitar - there are only 400 of these models made by Gibson for world distribution. The Frank Zappa Roxy model is made from Mahogany and its used on both the body and the neck, interestingly though the neck hasn't been painted and uses just a thin satin finish on top of the bare Mahogany wood.

Sound comes from dual '57 Classic humbuckers which have the usual two tone and two volume controls, however on the original instrument Zappa added two mini-toggle switches which were mounted onto the scratch plate and the guitar was given a wiring modification to allow phase and coil-tap switching - this has been perfectly replicated on the Gibson Frank Zappa Roxy SG. Another interesting feature is the chrome covered Lyre tailpiece which has a flat bar handle for vibrato effects and the chrome theme continues on the tune-o-matic bridge and the Scaller style machine heads. Unusually the Gibson Frank Zappa Roxy SG has a Maple headstock overlay and the body has been given a gloss Heritage Cherry finish to match the original instrument. This guitar has been made in relatively low numbers with only 400 produced for the world market and therefore could be considered to be a Limited Edition instrument.

Main Features:
  • Reproduced from the SG Frank Zappa played at the Roxy concerts from 1973 .Mahogany body & neck
  • Holly head veneer on the neck - colourless with a satin finish
  • Rosewood fretboard with inlaid dot fret markers - Includes Hard Shell case
  • Dual '57 classic hum-bucking pickups with 2 mini toggles for phase switching and coil split
  • Chrome Tune-o-Matic bridge, Schaller Style Machine Heads, Lyre tailpiece with flat bar handle
