Alvarez Artist Series ARD70 Sloped Dreadnought
Manufacturer's ID: ARD70
What we say:
Alvarez acoustic guitars began life in St Louis, Missouri in 1965 by master luthier Kazuo Yairi. A well known guitar brand in the States, many top players like David Crosby, Thom Yorke, Devin Townsend and Any DiFranco have proudly toted Alvarez guitars live and in the studio.
Nowadays most Alvarez guitars are made to exacting standards in China and distributed all over the world, bringing traditional building techniques, understated good looks and high quality control into the hands of players of all descriptions.
The ARD70 from Alvarez is a slope-shouldered Dreadnought with a slotted headstock. This overtly retro-themed stylings add a lot of charisma to this otherwise understated instrument.
Made with a solid top of A+ grade Sitka Spruce and layered Rosewood for the back and sides, this lovely guitar has a sound that’s bright and lively with a good bottom end.
Strummers and fingerpickers alike will warm to the sound from the ARD70: it sounds like a guitar twice it’s price! Part of that may be down to the hand-finished scalloping inside the instrument: this dictates a fairly large part of the guitar’s resulting tone and Alvarez have given this their full attention.
For retro, heritage vibes and sweet, versatile tones, this Alvarez ARD70 is a winner.
