Midge Ure Q&A at guitarguitar Glasgow

Published on 27 April 2023

Have you always wanted to know the secret ingredient to writing a hit song?

Or ever wondered what it takes to become a successful songwriter and a record producer?

Then you better come along to our Q&A with the one and only, Midge Ure!

James “Midge” Ure is a Scottish musician with humble beginnings and an engineering background who has a catalogue with a plethora of hit songs most modern musicians could only dream about.

Midge Ure has been active musically since the 1970s playing in bands such as Thin Lizzy, Visage and fronting British new wave superstars, Ultravox. In 1984, Midge co-wrote and produced the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” which sold a staggering 3.7 million copies in the UK alone. Alongside Bob Geldof, he also co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8. Ure is also the very man behind the hit “Dancing With Tears In My Eyes” and wrote many, many more songs you have heard throughout your life.

A living proof that you don’t have to be born into the riches in a big city or have a prestigious musical education to become successful in the music industry. A little tip or two may come a long way so don’t miss out on the opportunity to ask Midge anything you ever dreamt of knowing!
