About Fender Guitars
Fender guitars are the most recognisable electric guitars in history. Since Leo Fender built his first electric guitar around 70 years ago, over the decades the name has grown to legendary status. The Stratocaster and Telecaster designs have come to define what the world at large thinks of as the electric guitar. Countless legends in rock, blues, pop, jazz and even metal have played Fender models, both in the studio and on tour. They are versatile, practical, tough and beautiful.
The history of Fender guitars begins in 1946 when Leo Fender formed the Fender Musical Instruments company - initially making amps and lap steels. In the 1950s and 60s Leo Fender built several solid body Fender electric guitars which have become some of the most enduring and iconic models in the guitar and bass world and remain as popular as ever. The first Fender guitar was the single pickup Esquire in 1949, served as inspiration for the more popular Telecaster in 1951, with its pair of single coil pickups.
The Fender Stratocaster with its three pickups and tremolo system is perhaps the most famous guitar of all time and has been a mainstay in popular culture and many genres of music since its introduction in 1954. It has had a nearly endless roster of the most celebrated guitarists in history including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Buddy Holly play it in many differing genres in its more than 70 years.
The two core models have remained in production since day one. Today, there is a dizzying selection of Fender instruments to choose from with something to suit all players. Fender's mid-range models are produced in Ensenada, Mexico. These include the Player and Vintera Series as well as the brand new Player Plus series, with certain Artist Series models also being made in Mexico. The American made models offer the very best of quality and craft and often contain extra features not found on other guitars, Eric Clapton models are included in those that are made in the USA. The Fender Japan and JV Modified series are made in Japan and have their own distinctive style that sets them apart from the American and Mexican-made models. Fender also have a world famous Custom Shop where extremely talented luthiers produce some of the finest guitars ever created. Not only do Fender offer some of the most famous electric guitars available, their bass guitars, including the Fender precision bass and jazz bass models are up there with some of the best available basses too.
Now-classic models such as the Jazzmaster and Jaguar with their classy looks, offset body shape and unique tremolo system weren't initially adopted by the players they were marketed for in the 50s and 60s, but later found a huge audience with shoegaze, indie and alternative rockers looking for something different. Fender electric guitars come in a wide variety of colours, including unusual choices such as pink and silver.
Whether you are after a traditional Stratocaster, a quirky Mustang or a signature artist model, we have a massive selection of these iconic instruments to choose from and all go great with our range of Fender amps. With players such as Jim Root, Brad Paisley and Tom Morello all continuing to fly the Fender flag, it is no wonder that Fender is still the first choice for a large number of guitarists today.
Fender electric guitars are historically known for their single coil pickups, but many now also feature humbuckers too, and there is a guitar for any style in the Fender lineup. Complete your Fender guitar setup with our range of Fender accessories, including straps, cables, gig bags and more.
