About Fender Japan

The Fender Japan Series is known for exceptional quality, value for money and stylishness.

Fender started making guitars in Japan in the early 80s to compete with more affordable Japanese brands like Tokai and Greco. Since then, Fender Japan have developed their own distinctive style which sets them apart from their American counterparts. There are a few hallmarks of Fender guitars made in Japan. They tend to have thin, gloss necks with small fretwire - this makes them very easy to play. They are often more adventurous with colour and pickup combinations. They have a particularly stylish, classy aesthetic.

Most Fender Japan guitars are made for the domestic Japanese and Australian markets. There are some limited edition guitars, however, which make it as far as Europe and North America. These guitars are often called FSR models which stands for ‘Fender Special Run’. The Fender Japan models are exciting, original guitars; often playing fast and loose with Fender history in a way in which the American factory can’t.

A selection of our Fender Made in Japan guitars come included with a guitar bag or guitar case.
