About the Fender Stratocaster

The Fender Stratocaster is without doubt the most famous and well-recognised electric guitar design in history. No other electric guitar can claim to have made, and changed, history as much as the Strat. Leo Fender hit the bullseye so directly with the Stratocaster back in 1954 that it remains essentially unchanged to this day.

Having said that, the Stratocaster's famous versatility has made it a great base for modifications and alternative options and so you'll find a greater variety of Stratocaster options than ever before: humbuckers, locking tremolos, vintage finishes; every variety you can think of is offered by Fender, their affordable Squier brand and their top end Custom Shop team.

With three single coil pickups, a bolted-on neck and a tremolo arm, otherwise known as a whammy bar, the Stratocaster allows you to perform almost any style of music with a tone that is by turns classic, pretty, gritty and wild, depending on how you employ it. The Stratocaster has been used by every influntial guitar legend in existence including - but by no means limited to - Jimi Hendrix, David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayer and millions more. The Fender Stratocaster is the definitive electric guitar.

At guitarguitar, we are not only one of the UK's biggest authorised Fender dealers, we are also one of the UK's top Fender Custom Shop dealers and we have the best selection of Stratocasters available anywhere. Frequently Asked Questions about Fender Stratocaster

Both of these iconic Fender models feature bolt-on neck construciton and have songle coil pickups but aside from that, they are fairly different. The Telecaster has a 'slab' body with no contours and a single cutaway cut into its iconic body shape. It has two single coil pickups with a three way selector and a bridge that sits in a metal tray alongside the bridge position pickup. Tha Stratocaster has a double cutaway body shape with curves and contours. It has three single coil pickups with a 5 way selector switch and an extra tone control. Both guitars have Maple necks and share a similarioty in tone up to a point but it is generally regarded that the Telecaster has a stronger, more direct voice with lots of bite compared to the relatively more 'bell like' tone of the Stratocaster. These terms are massively general though: both guitars are capable of a huge variety of tones: just listen to Jimi Hendrix and Radiohead to hear how creative Strats and Teles can sound in the hands of master players. Of course, our advice is the same as always: visit us and pick out one of each to try out. Who knows, you may end up taking both...
