Question: How does recording work?
Whether you're recording to a multitrack recorder or to software via an audio interface, the process is the same. The input you plug into will feature an ADC (analog to digital converter), which converts your signal into a digital recording made up of ones and zeros, much like how music is stored on a CD. When you play back the recording, it reaches a DAC (digital to analog converter) at your output, which converts the digital file into an analog signal that can be played back by your speakers or headphones.

Essential recording & studio equipment you need in a studio will generally include a computer with a music studio package, most commonly referred to as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), an audio interface that gets the sound of your instruments and microphones into your computer, headphones and monitor speakers for mixing and monitoring your recording and at least one microphone.
