What we say:
Strandberg’s unique guitars are an innovative blend of inspiration, engineering, quality and ergonomics. Based in Uppsala, Sweden, all Strandberg guitars are made, in their own words “by hand where ‘feel’ is required and by CNC where precision is required”. Dating back to 2007, founder Ola Strandberg created and patented the brand’s unique Endurneck shape and has matched these necks to equally impressive guitars, made distinctive by their perfectly balanced shape and headstock-less necks. These super lightweight guitars, available in 6,7 & 8 string models feature a host of options (including fan fretted fingerboards like on this guitar) to make for a brand of particularly inventive and forward-thinking instruments for players who are interested in defining the future.
This superb 8 string was the first model designed by Strandberg and the standard by which all subsequent models have been compared. Bringing a fresh new shape (known as the Boden), a pioneering and innovative neck (called the Endurneck) and a headless design, Strandberg shot off the starting line boldly. This defining model has had the odd tweak over the years, most specifically in the pickups, but otherwise it remains the cornerstone of Strandberg's line. This model shows off it's stunningly figured top with a deeply translucent Red finish.
This unique beast is made with a chambered Swamp Ash body topped with AAAA bookmatched maple. The patented Endurneck is something else: despite looking unusual and square in practice it feels exceptional: it’s comfortable, easy to handle and allows your fingers to fall in directly the correct places to make complex chording shapes and arpeggios easy to perform. Your muscles, joints and tendons will thank you for years to come!
This particular neck is made from 3 pieces of Roasted Birdseye Maple with two Carbon Fibre fillets for reinforcement. The frets are slightly fanned too, with a scale length that goes from 26.25"-28". This is so that the frets line up with how your fingers naturally fall on the fret board. It's something that you don't even need to take account of with your playing, save to note that your fretting is exceptionally easy and comfortable! It also helps with intonation and tuning of the extended range strings. The fretboard radius is an ultra-flat 20 inches and the 24 frets are ultra-tough stainless steel for a lifetime’s uninterrupted use. The neck also has glow-in-the-dark Luminlay fret markers on both the Pau Ferro board and the side of the neck.
The pickups are a set of Fishman's innovative Fluence Modern 8 string models. These active pickups have two distinct and selectable voices that give you vintage Alnico PAF tones and all out Ceramic sonic warfare from the same units. This is a pleasant and useful choice to have on this guitar: playing it feels like luxury itself and the sounds are of an extremely high calibre.
There is no preconception about how to approach this guitar: you pick it up and you play what you want to play, go where you want to go. It's a very freeing and empowering feeling.
