What we say:

At A Glance:

The Martin K-1 Major Kealakai Custom is a truly historic design and a very important part of acoustic guitar history! While this may not be the most well known design this guitar has influenced music in a way that would surprise most as this is the precursor to the iconic dreadnought shape. That's right without this guitar, Martin guitars and indeed the history of acoustic guitars could have been very different. The Custom Shop at Martin have honoured Major Kealakai with an extremely high quality build combining almost 200 years of history and experience to create a guitar that loves to sing as much as you love to play.

Features We Love:

Martin Custom Shop

When it comes to building an acoustic guitar there's not much better you can do than the Martin Custom Shop. Experience and history stretching almost 200 years. The Martin Custom shop pours all of this into each custom shop guitar to make sure that every guitar that leaves is ready to represent with excellent playability and a tone that will captivate many.

Historic Design

This design has quite the history to it that many may not know as without this design, we may not have the dreadnought! That's right perhaps the most iconic acoustic guitar shape came about because of this design. This Major Kealakai guitar has quite the history before it's even strummed its first chords then.

Aged Tonewoods

Listed as VTS (Vintage Tone System) by Martin, a torrefied top does a lot for the tone of a guitar. By drying and heating the wood prior to the build, the wood is changed at the molecular level and the aging process is accelerated. All this is to say the top on this guitar is both incredibly resonant and aged to the point it already sounds broken in. When you pick this guitar up it will sound like a guitar you've played your whole life.

Who Is It For?

A Martin fan who is after something historic but a little bit different, this guitar design has true history as it predates and heavily influenced the development of the Dreadnought shape.

Highlights:

  • Martin Custom Shop quality
  • Design is the precursor to the iconic dreadnought shape
  • VTS timber
