About DJ Turntables
Vinyl Turntables are where the art of DJing began. DJ record decks offer more than the turntable on your home stereo and many feature the ability to speed up or slow down a record for beat matching the vinyl on your other DJ deck. Some turntables also feature a USB port, allowing you to record your vinyl and mixes to pen drive.
Frequently Asked Questions about DJ Turntables
Question: I've heard that vinyl is prone to skipping?
Provided you take care of your records, which includes cleaning them and refraining from touching the grooves when moving from the sleeve to the deck, it's unlikely they will skip without some external force (like bumping the turntable or excessive sub bass) causing them to skip.
Question: Do I need to tape a coin to the arm on the turntable?
Some DJs have been known to do this to prevent the record skipping whilst scratching. It's generally frowned upon and we don't recommend you do this as it will wear out your records very quickly.
Question: Do I need to use a mixer with a turntable?
It's down to the turntable you're using, some have a phono preamp and will allow you to connect the turntable directly to your audio interface or stereo system. For turntables without a preamp, you can use an Art DJPre II Phono Preamp to bring the signal level up.
Question: Can I play small and big records on any turntable?
You can. All turntables are able to play 7", 10" and 12" records at both 33.33rpm and 45rpm. Some will even play records at 78rpm and frankly, if you're the kind of person that's DJing 78 records, you're alright with us!
