What we say:

Fender’s new range for 2018 is the American Original Series. Replacing the previous American Vintage models, these guitars are all based on decade-specific eras, reflecting the best and most loved attributes from the 50s, 60s and 70s. These USA made models all share certain attributes like modern 9.5” radius fretboards and the same ‘vintage tall’ fretwire plus they are have the all-important nitrocellulose lacquer, a thinner skin finish that ages more beautifully and resonates better as the guitar is used and the wood vibrates. This new series is a total slam-dunk for Fender: some of their coolest, most iconic instruments with the features that everybody wants and asks for!

Jaguars have never been more popular than they are right now: a few years back they weren’t even an option in the US Vintage range but younger indie players and iconoclastic musicians from all walks of life have been increasingly demanding that renegade offset look, the sharp sound and idiosyncratic switching options of the Jaguar. We are big fans of the Jag here at GG so we’re glad to see its inclusion in this prestigious American Original line.

This 60s referencing Jaguar has an Alder body with some cool colours like this classic Candy Apple Red. As with traditional Jaguars, this has a shorter-than-usual 24” scale length for a tighter, slinkier playing experience. The neck itself has a ‘60s C’ profile and the rosewood fingerboard is bound for an excellent retro look and feel.

The hardware is all as you’d expect: the floating tremolo with a long push-in arm all fitted on to a large metal plate, vintage Deluxe tuners and all of the switching located in the correct places with the metal panelling.

Speaking of switching, the Jaguar is famous for its Lead/Rhythm split circuit. This can throw some rookie players because in any given mode, not every switch or control knob actually works! This is quite normal and once you get the hang of the layout you’ll be fine. The famous high-pass filter ‘strangle switch’ is here in all its skronky glory too!

A pair of Vintage 62 single coil Jaguar pickups deliver that janglesome, versatile sound that so many players love. By deft use of the circuit split you can have a couple of distinctly different tones lined up to use, going from one to the other with the flick of a switch.

Jaguar fans will love being able to get their hands on a new, nitro-finished Jaguar without having to ask the Custom Shop: it’s a smart move by Fender and an entirely welcome one.
