The Blackstar HT-20H MkII is a 20-watt valve powered head with two distinct channels and four different voices to play with.

The HT-20R MkII has two footswitchable Voices, one with an “American” character and the other with a Class A “British” sound.

Clean Voices

Voice 1 “American” – A clean, bright and tight tone with a solid bass response for a refined American tone.

Voice 2 “British” – A highly responsive “chime” with looser bottom for the British tone that can be pushed into a mid-range overdrive when driven hard.

The two footswitchable Overdrive Voices are characterised by a tone which is high in gain, but avoids any of the detached top-end “fizz”.

Overdrives:

Voice 1 “Classic” – This is the Classic “British” Blackstar overdrive. Rich and natural it goes all the way to Super Crunch gain but cleans up beautifully.

Voice 2 “High Gain” – Inspired by the critically acclaimed HT Venue MkII high gain sounds, this overdrive has additional aggression in the high end with a tight resonant low-end.

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4.5/5 (2 reviews)

Giving it 4 stars because as of yet I can't record with it for some reason. Did everything the tutorial on their own Youtube channel said word for word and can't get the amp to record. I have got in touch with Blackstar and it is in progress as to what the matter is. My impression is the two cleans using the voicings are great and the distortions are fine but not at the same level, but that's fine with me cause I am more leaning towards clean and if I want distortion I can run a pedal through it. The Marshall-type tone is the best of the two distortion tones and I like it, the modern tone which is more like a metal tone isn't great but it's OK, just not my cup of tea. I don't play metal anyway so for me that doesn't matter. I haven't tweaked the settings a lot though. It does the valve/tube sound very well and that's the main thing.
