Pensa Guitars

Pensa Guitars have probably the most star studded start of any guitar company. The company bloomed from a friendship of Rudy Pensa, and Mark Knopfler. Add to this the addition of master luthier John Suhr (of Suhr guitars) in 1984 and you have a recipe for success. The brand started life under the name R-Custom but soon changed to the now legendary Pensa Suhr moniker. In 1988 the brand released probably its most famous guitar which debuted at the 1988 Nelson Mandela concert with Mark Knopfler. The guitar featured a mahogany body and neck, with a carved, highly figured quilted maple top finished in a caramel orange colour. This guitar also features Gotoh tuners, EMG pickups, and a floyd rose double locking tremolo. In addition to the star studded beginnings of the company, Mark Knopfler also gifted a Pensa guitar to Eric Clapton, further elevating the brands status around the world.

This guitar was the basis for the Pensa MK guitars that are still offered by the company today. Although John Suhr has moved on to create his own brand, Rudy Pensa is still running Pensa custom guitars and building world class instruments every year out of his famous New York shop, Rudy's Music on 48th street.
