What we say:

Fender’s Player Series is a fresh update of their most beloved models for today’s contemporary guitarist. The Player Series replaces the Mexican Standard Series and brings with it a host of exciting new features. Each Player Series guitar features 22 frets, new colours, a newly designed neck carve and upgraded pickups. Whatever style you play, you’ll be sure to find a favourite amongst the raft of new models available.

Fender’s most famous creation gets a subtle facelift here for the Player Series. It’s fair to say that there really isn’t much to improve about the Stratocaster so Fender have wisely dodged any notions of reinventing the wheel, instead going for upgrades in quality and finish options over anything more contentious.

So what do we get here then? Firstly, the pickups are redesigned units with alnico V magnets for a sweet, vintage tone. Fender have clearly spent the time on these units because they sound excellent: that famously glassy Strat sound is perfectly achievable, as are a myriad of satisfying crunch tones. For harder styles, Fender also offer HSS and HSH Player Strats but this model sticks with tradition.

The bridge design deploys a range of player preferences: a modern 2 point pivot is matched up with vintage bent steel saddles, a canny and sensible choice from Fender.

As with the rest of the Fender Player range, the Stratocaster’s neck has a Modern C carve with a 9.5” radius fingerboard and medium jumbo frets. This is a neck that everyone can enjoy playing on: it’s not too retro and not too modern.

Fender have really succeeded with the Player Stratocaster: this is a lot of guitar for the money. It preserves the tradition and history of this most iconic of guitars, and brings a modern edge without being slavishly so. In other words, it’s pretty perfect. This Strat has a Maple fingerboard and has a Black finish with a Parchment pickguard.

The first guitar I bought from GG was faulty but they went out of their way to rectifying the problem by replacing the guitar.

Fender Player Stratocaster. A better player than my U.S made Strat.

vincent w. - 29/11/2019

A beautiful guitar. Fantastic finish, low action and a great time. All for around £500. Amazing.

Andrew C. - 28/7/2019

Sounds, looks and feels great.

William H. - 16/7/2019

Great guitar and excellent pre-purchase advice but supplied guitar was far from ready to play requiring bridge fixing properly and then tuning. Otherwise this would be a 5 star review

steven d. - 26/12/2018

Oz was a star with his knowledge and patience and helping me to pick up the right guitar.

Michael F. - 21/10/2018

I?ve always wanted a Srat but never thought myself a good enough guitarist to warrant the outlay. This new line of Made in Mexico has opened my eyes. I absolutely love this guitar and have hardly put it down since buying it. I especially like the fact that the bridge pickup now has its own tone control. If, like me, you?ve always wanted one, you won?t get better at the price than this new line of Player Stratocasters.
