"I have been dreaming about designing a truly ‘small’ guitar for quite a while - but as usual I wanted the sound to be anything but small! The final design focused on voicing the bracing and soundbox geometry so that the voice was even and smooth without the ‘boxiness’ sometimes overly evident in small guitars. Thus the Wee Lowden was born!"
The Lowden WL-22 Wee Lowden Red Cedar / Mahogany has a Red Cedar Top, Mahogany Body, Mahogany/Rosewood Neck, GL Standard Neck Profile Ebony Fretboard, Figured Mahogany Binding, Schaller M6 Tuners, Split Saddle, Incl. Hiscox Case
The Wee Lowden is testament to Lowden's ability to make classic sounding acoustic guitars, but also to keep up with the needs of the modern guitarist. More and more guitarists are favouring the convenient size and intimate feel of smaller-bodied acoustic guitars, so Northern Irish luthier George Lowden has responded by designing the Wee Lowden: a small guitar with a big voice.
The top or soundboard is made from Redwood, which has many tonal characteristics in common with Cedar, but with more top end clarity. The back and sides are made of solid East Indian rosewood, which gives the guitar a bright, sustaining resonance characteristic of a much larger guitar.
