What we say:

Fender have redesigned elements of the Jazzmaster for the American Professional Series to accentuate what it always had and make this popular model even more of a classic. This particular guitar is for left-handed players.

The main benefits to this model, and the most welcome to a lot of players, are a simplifying of the controls and the substitution of Mustang saddles into the bridge. Jaguars are notorious for having strings ping out from the bring when a certain amount of pressure is applied. A popular modification was to put the Mustang saddles on and Fender have wisely does this from the start!

The custom-designed pickups are hotter than usual and the volume control has a good treble bleed circuit so when you clean up the hot pickups by turning the volume down, you don’t get mushy, unusable tone: your Jazzmaster’s distinctive bite and cut remains, just with less gain! Perfect.

The scale length is standard Fender 25.5”, as Jazzmasters have always been, but now the neck has gotten chunkier: it’s now a more substantial ‘Deep C’ carve which is so comfortable and playable! The radius of the neck is Fender’s modern standard: 9.5 inches. Even the frets have been reconsidered: Fender are favouring Narrow-tall frets which lie somewhere between vintage frets and jumbos. You’ll feel a nice balance between chord playing and leads with this type of fret, curbing impulses to go too shred heavy. Unless you’re J Mascis, that’s not what Jazzmasters are for anyway!

All in, the upgrades are all really sensible and warranted. Jazzmaster fans may find this to be their ultimate guitar. The left handed Fender American Pro Jazzmaster is available here in Mystic Seafoam.

An elegant model with flexible electronics and a rich voice, the Jazzmaster’s introduction in 1958 marked the first time a rosewood fingerboard was used on a Fender instrument. Thanks to its effortless playing feel and ergonomic offset-waist body, the Jazzmaster has powered infinite musical genres, including surf rock, gospel, new wave and indie rock, among others.

Developed by longtime pickup guru Michael Frank, creator of the renowned Eric Johnson Signature Stratocaster® Pickups, the brand-new V-Mod Jazzmaster pickups kick out hot, vintage-inspired tone with plenty of punch and definition. Retain high end clarity when adjusting the volume controls, thanks to the new treble-bleed tone circuit. The new modern, deep “C”-shaped neck profile feels just right in your hand while the narrow-tall frets make it easy to bend strings accurately and play perfectly intonated chords. The improved tremolo and bridge incorporate a screw-in arm and brass Mustang saddles that stabilize the strings while adding a touch of sonic zip to your tone.

The best of yesterday and today, the American Professional Jazzmaster is the latest form of electric inspiration from Fender. Step up and stake your claim to a legend.

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 5 (1 reviews)

Looks *lovely*, sounds great but more like an edgier Strat than a Jazzmaster due to the revoiced pickups, and there's no rhythm circuit thanks to the people who have just gaffa taped it up over the years but the bridge isn't rubbish and the tremolo arm screws in so it doesn't just fall out! So if you want a really well-made Jazzmaster shaped Stratocaster this is for you but you might want to buy a Japanese or Mexican one if you want it to actually sound like a Jazzmaster.
