What we say:
At A Glance:
The Ableton Push 2 is a midi surface controller that offers in-depth integration into your Ableton Live software. Designed to not only let you operate Live without having to touch your mouse, Push 2 allows you to treat your software as an instrument.
Whether you're recording, producing, writing or DJing, Push will revitalise your workflow, allowing you to work purely from the controller itself. With a series of dedicated and assignable controls, RGB display, multipurpose pads and a touch-strip, if you love using Live, then Push 2 is set to be an indispensable part of your setup.
Features We Love:
A Dedicated Controller
Unlike most Ableton Live focussed controllers that basically let you launch clips and not much else, Push 2 is pre-mapped to Live. Letting you navigate through the software via the dedicated controls and giving you a real time visual representation on the screen. This makes editing, performing and writing a fast and intuitive process.
The 64 touch sensitive and light up pads can of course be used for launching clips, but there is so much more behind their design. The bank of pads can be used for playing in beats, or even as a keyboard style controller. In keyboard mode you can specify the scale, tuning and octave the notes are set to, which we've found to be great for staying in key and even for inspiring new musical ideas.
In addition to this you can move into chord mode, where each note will play a chord within the scale your set to. There is also an arpeggiator mode, which will quickly arpeggiate through the notes your fingers are on, this can be done in many different patterns, directions and speeds.
Finally the pads can operate as your step sequencer. Lighting up the pads to represent the playhead and note placement, it's quick and easy to begin programming beats and musical patterns with precision. We also think it happens looks really cool
The colour display reacts instantly to each mode you move into, giving you a precision view of what you're editing or sculpting, without cluttering the screen with things you don't need. Whether this is selecting sounds, cropping samples, specifying loop points or editing synth sounds, everything can be done without having to look at your monitor.
