Master Builder Dale Wilson designed this fabulous 50s style strat for us, which was then built by the team at Fender's Custom Shop.

It's an NOS so that means New Old Stock: there are no dings, chips, scrapes or cracks anywhere at all! This particular Stratocaster has a slightly unusual Chocolate 3 Tone Sunburst: it has strong ambers, reds and very dark browns: it's one of the best Sunbursts we've seen on a stratocaster in a long time. It's set off especially well with this tortoiseshell pickguard.

The maple neck is a sumptuous piece of AA-grade flamed maple which is as strong as it is attractive. It's carved into a v-shape carve and features a trio of 'fat 50s' pickups to deliver the sound of the decade: pop chime, surf twang and raw rock 'n' roll.

By 1987, the renowned Fender Custom Shop opened in Corona, California, creating dream instruments for professional guitarists and guitar enthusiasts. Fender always recognized the importance of an open-door policy for musicians, accommodating their requests for specific features on an individual basis. The Fender Custom Shop has since become known worldwide as the pinnacle of craftsmanship and instrument artistry.

There are a couple of little dings to this guitar - one just above the nut behind the low E strings and another to the edge of the body. These guitars are designed to be 'self-relic'd', so this one just has a little subtle head start!

One of the huge advantages of us making regular trips to the Fender Custom Shop is that we get to know the Master Builders personally. We asked Dale Wilson to provide his input into a run of guitars with some of his favourite appointments. Dale's Master Built instruments are known for their ultra thin finishes be they either Reliced or NOS instruments.
With his input we have come up with a series of guitars here that feature an ultra thin skin finish on a light weight swamp ash body. These guitars very light weight and resonant. They are actually initially finished as if they would be reliced. Rather than the process of ageing the guitar they are then buffed to an NOS finish. All of the instruments show signs of some sinkage and the guitars will relic easily with some playing leaving you to put your own wear patterns onto the guitar naturally. Dale chose a AA Flame Maple Neck with compound radius and Fat 50's pickups. They all ship in a Tweed Case with orange lining.

Designed by the Master Builder Dale WIlson and then crafted by the expert luthiers in the Fender Custom Shop. These guitars are exclusive to guitarguitar.
