What we say:
‘Dreadnought acoustic guitar’. This model DEFINES that term. The D28 with its solid tone wood construction of Sitka Spruce with Rosewood is every bit as classic, iconic and influential as a Gibson Les Paul or Fender Stratocaster. Nearly every major artist who has laid down an acoustic track on a record of played one live has utilised a D28 at one point or another.
Aside from that, nearly every other acoustic guitar described as a ‘dreadnought’ has taken liberal inspiration from this seminal masterpiece. The original is still the one to beat: it stands at the top of the vast mountain of guitars that have existed over the years and says 'nice try'.
This particular D-28 is part of Martin's Reimagined Series. The Reimagined Series is, as the name suggests, a new perspective on the famous Martin Standard range. The changes are subtle but welcome: the clear coat finish has a tinted toner to give a more aged appearance; the headstock bears an older-style logo & open gear tuners; the body has aged binding and the neck is a modern carve for a more comfortable feel. All of these little changes accumulate to give the Reimagined Series a fresh, refined look that is entirely in keeping with Martin & Co’s rich heritage.
There really aren't any genres you can't tackle with a D28. It has a sound that's bottom heavy, top heavy and also has a great midrange presence. Strum it, pick a note, tap out some harmonics: however those notes come out of this is how acoustic guitars are meant to sound.
