PHA-4 Keyboard

The PHA-4 keyboard uses a Progressive Hammer Action design to capture the essence of what it's like to play an acoustic piano. Just like with an acoustic piano, the keys feel heavier to the touch at the bass end and gradually get lighter as you work your way up to the top notes. Plus by using a hybrid wood and plastic construction, the keys have a weighty feel that interacts with the sound engine in the most natural of ways.

SuperNATURAL

With acoustic instruments sampled in high-quality audio, SuperNATURAL gives you a full and rich tone that only acoustic instruments possess. However, while most manufacturers settle for giving you purely sample-based sounds, Roland recognised that there is still something lacking from an acoustic instrument sampled at different velocities.

The subtle characteristics created from moving parts, and by strings and notes that resonate even when not being struck, create a much bigger picture than what's captured with audio sampling. These intricate characteristics have been synthetically recreated to enhance the character of each voice and the result is a rich and organic tone that's full of character and charm.

Layer and Split

One feature that's unique to the RD-88 is its ability to layer and split up to 3 sounds internally or externally via MIDI or USB. Create layers for interesting textures or map specific sounds to the keyboard zones so you don't need to change patches mid-song. This feature also integrates with Apple MainStage, giving you full control over your favourite soft instruments as well as the ability to blend them with the RD-88's internal sounds and use the RD-88 as your audio interface.

ZEN-Core Synthesis System

ZEN-Core is a powerful synthesizer engine that taps into decades of research and development by Roland. With perfectly recreated versions of classic Roland gear, as well as new creations, ZEN-Core will quickly become an essential part of your studio and stage sound. ZEN-Core is unique in that it works both as a plugin in your music software package and in your keyboard. This means you can write and record a song in your DAW, then take the exact same sounds to the stage with you.
