What we say:

Yamaha’s FG line has been in constant production since the mid 60s and is now something of a minor classic. Yamaha’s take on the dreadnought, the FG (presumably for Folk Guitar) is a great amalgamation of good design, excellent production standards and fantastic value for money.

This FG820-12 model is a 12 string dreadnought model. As well as having the solid Spruce top, this model has Mahogany sides and back for a stronger, warmer tone. The solid Spruce top allows the full and large sound of the dreadnought shape to resonate and vibrate properly when played, giving a balanced and loud 12 string tone that can handle chordal strumming and delicate picked arpeggios equally well. Elsewhere, the body binding has been updated to cream plastic for a more upmarket look and a range of colours is available, this being Natural.

Inside the soundhole, the bracing on the guitar’s top has been scalloped according to new developments to improve the sound, tightness and response.

This guitar is a good buy for someone looking for an affordable 12 string dreadnought that plays easily and will improve sonically in the years to come.
