“North Street” is a collection of fine Custom Shop built guitars that have been inspired by the much coveted pre-war ‘Golden Era’ classics that were made at the old C.F. Martin factory in North Street, downtown Nazareth during the 1930’s.
Our North Street D-18 takes the recipe for a classic Style-18 guitar and adds centuries-old Sinker Mahogany for the back and sides. Sinker mahogany logs have lain on the riverbed in Belize for hundreds of years. This unique aging environment imparts minerals and attributes to create a tonewood like no other. With a darker, denser tone, it is said that Sinker Mahogany is the closest tonewood available today to the old-growth mahogany used to build those Golden Era 18-Style models in the 1930’s.
When coupled with an easy-playing modified low-oval neck and a dynamic Adirondack Spruce top with hand-scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing, this guitar is a perfect distillation of a Golden Era D-18, with the playability of a modern instrument.
