Overall Rating 5/5 (3 reviews)

An excellent replacement OEM saddle for my Taylor GS Mini. I wanted to lower the action on my guitar and this was an excellent option whilst retaining the original just in case!

New Taylor guitars come with a paper/resin laminate ‘Micarta’ saddle as standard. These saddles are pretty good - more consistently hard throughout the saddle - and between saddles - than the Tusq saddles that preceded them. But Taylor also sell wave-shaped bone saddles as an option. I decided to try one out of curiosity (Taylor dropped bone on new guitars a few years ago so they could be vegan-friendly as standard). The bone saddle is excellent. The sound is more rich mellow, which is exactly what I wanted. However I have friends who prefer the bright sound of their Micarta saddle so it is down to personal preference. I suspect many people wouldn’t notice much difference between the two materials, and that is fine (and would make Taylor happy to hear). Overall, unlike the far-too-soft ‘nubone’ nut on the GS e-mini (which I think everyone should replace with the Tusq or bone options sold by GuitarGuitar) I would say that changing the saddle is not essential. Far from it. Only do it if you find your sound too bright. The old and new saddles just pull and push in-and-out and are a perfect match, so there is nothing else to do.

Haven’t used it yet but it looks good.
