The Gibson L-5 is a hollow body guitar first produced in 1923 by the Gibson Guitar Corporation, then of Kalamazoo, Michigan. One of the first guitars to feature F-holes, the L-5 was designed under the direction of acoustical engineer and designer Lloyd Loar, and has been in production ever since.

Condition Report

At guitarguitar, we award our used gear a grade from 1-5 according to its overall condition, with 5 being the best.

This item was appraised as follows:

Body: 4 out of 5 - Item shows some mild and/or minor signs of use such as superficial swirling or hazing to the finish. There are no substantial dings, dents or scuffs which break the finish.

Neck: 4 out of 5 - The frets are in good order and the instrument plays cleanly and intonates accurately across the fingerboard.

Additional Information: This guitar has come to us in a fantastic condition. In production for over 100 years and built in 1983, this guitar has only very minor play wear with no significant marks or dents. The neck, fretboard and frets are clean, with plenty of life left in them. There are some light surface scratches on the headstock plate, and the truss rod cover has a split by the top screw position. There are light scratches in the finish all over the body, but none with any significant depth. There are two small breaks in the finish just to the right of the tailpiece, as well as another small impact mark beneath the right f-hole. The original pickguard has light swirling. Expected repairs (fingerboard rebinding and refret) were carried out in 2004 by Bill Puplett, the legendary guitar luthier. Additionally, Gibson branded Schaller flip out gold tuning pegs have been installed

This guitar has been restrung with Dunlop Strings
