About Maxon Guitar Pedals

Maxon Guitar Pedals perhaps aren't a household name in the pedal world, but their impact and designs are legendary. Hailing from Japan, the Nisshin Onpa company (Maxon) starting building guitar pedals in 1969 which where marketed under several different names.

Ibanez pedals became one of the company's main customers and Nisshin Onpa designed and built pedals for them from 1974-2002. These same pedals were also marketed with the Maxon branding during this time.

Many Maxon pedals may look very familiar for this reason - Maxon were actually responsible for the design and manufacture of iconic Ibanez pedals such as the TS-808 and TS9 Tubescreamers and the AD9 analog delay. Designs like the Tubescreamer are so embedded in guitar culture that there has yet to be a modern effects pedal to take its place, and Maxon is the company that brought this pedal to the world.

Nisshin Onpa parted ways with Ibanez and continued making Maxon pedals like the OD-808 and SD-9 based on their rich legacy of classic designs and remain a pedal powerhouse.

Why Should I Choose a Maxon Guitar Pedal?

  • Classic analog circuits
  • Iconic retro aesthetic
  • Tough, durable and roadworthy
