What we say:
This wonderful supercharged S-type guitar is from Jackson’s X Series and is the signature model for Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith.
Adrian needs a versatile guitar with power and finesse for his job as one of Iron Maiden’s triple lead guitar attack. This tasteful Superstrat is smart enough to fit in at any gig but wild sounding enough to fully commit to some heavy metal noise!
A Basswood ‘San Dimas’ body, finished in a glossy white, is joined in the traditional bolted on manner with a neck that comes in both Maple and Rosewood fingerboard varieties, this being the Maple version. A headstock with the distinct Fender headstock carries an oversized Jackson logo and black (like the rest of the hardware) tuners.
The neck is awesome: it is satin finished, thin (though not too thin) and has a compound radius of 12-16”. This is very pleasurable to play on, especially when you factor in the 22 Jumbo sized frets!
The pickup selection is that most versatile of configurations, the H-S-S. These are all Jackson units, with a hot bridge humbucker and two quite classic sounding single coils.
A Floyd Rose Special tremolo model provides the ability to make screaming shrieks and and dives, all the time keeping the guitar perfectly in tune.
This guitar came about after Adrian made friends with Grover Jackson back in the early 80s. Upon taking delivery of his first prototype, Adrian himself says: “I got it out the box and played it for three years.” We don’t think there is a greater seal of approval than that!
