About Signature Guitars
Signature Guitars are special instruments created specifically to the needs and requirements of famous artists and they offer the easiest way to get your hands on some of the most iconic guitars of all time. These are often modified versions of existing guitars with added and altered features that represent what that particular artist uses themselves. There are often special finishes too, such as graphic finishes or specific colours associated with that artist. On many occasions, signature guitars are direct replicas of famous artist guitars, recreated with every detail. Other signature guitars are fresh designs made in association with an artist, to their preferences. Many signature guitars exist for rock, metal, blues and country guitarists.
The signature guitar idea was started in the late 80s with Fender Custom Shop’s reproduction of Eric Clapton’s famous black strat. Since then all manufacturers have been at it - Gibson with Jimmy Page and Slash models, Gretsch with George Harrison and Malcolm Young guitars, and Martin with Johnny Cash and John Mayer acoustics. Signature guitars are extremely collectable and an excellent way to get closer to iconic tones.
Aside from chasing a particular tone, there are a couple of reasons why players love signature guitars. Firstly, any changes they make to the basic template tend to be sensible amendments based on years of experience. Take the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster and Fender Johnny Marr Jaguar, for example. These signature models iron out some of the eccentricities of vintage Jazzmasters and Jaguars, with new bridges and simplified electronics. These guitars have gone on to greatly influence new Fender designs.
The second reason is, since they have someone else’s name attached to it, brands tend to push the boat out for signature guitars. This means they can be exceptional value for money. Higher quality spec is common.
A selection of our signature guitars come included with a gig bag or hard case.
Why Should I Choose a Signature Guitar?
- Play the same guitar as your favourite musician
- Special features and finishes not available in the standard catalogue
- Nail your favourite tones
- Extremely collectable, often limited edition
