What we say:
Takamine are a very familiar brand to music fans: constantly seen in the overwhelmingly public hands of artists like Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, The Eagles and Garth Brooks. World class professionals choose Takamine, a brand that has grown from a small shop at the foot of Mt Takamine in Japan in 1959 to their status today as one of the world’s biggest acoustic guitar brands.
The Pro 4 Series contains some excellent guitars including this cutaway Dreadnought. Built with solid Spruce for the top and solid Sapele for the back, this guitar provides an excellent representation of what a strong dreadnought should sound like: it has lots of projection and a good low end. Strumming is eminently satisfying as is fingerpicking styles with plenty of dynamics.
Visual appeal is very similar to the 3 series: there are wooden dots-within-dots for fret inlays and the soundhole rosette is made of concentric circles. The bridge on this model has been upgraded to a pinless version and the saddle itself is split in two to offer excellent intonation results.
Excitingly, a Cooltube CTP-3 preamp and a Palathetic undersaddle combine to give you genuine valve tone! There are two channels to use: a bright channel and a warmer, thicker channel. Both sound fantastic. This guitar is all about tone and playability: happily, it excels at both.
Specification
Built with the performer in mind, the P4DC features Takamine’s CT4B II preamp system and proprietary Palathetic™ under-saddle pickup for superior amplified response. The acclaimed CT4B II features a three-band EQ, volume control and built-in tuner.
Other performance-enhancing features include a convenient Venetian cutaway for easy access to the upper reaches of the fingerboard, and Takamine’s asymmetrical neck profile – which is slightly thinner on the bass side so that it fits the natural shape of your hand, resulting in a comfortable feel and improved playability. The split bone saddle provides more accurate intonation, while the pin-less rosewood bridge makes string changes a breeze.
Premium design appointments include elegant ivory body binding with dark wood purfling, a rosette featuring concentric rings and wood marquetry, a rosewood fingerboard with ivory binding and wood “dot-in-dot” inlays, gold tuners with amber buttons, a natural bone nut, elegant red tortoise pickguard and a gloss natural finish. The PD4C comes complete with a premium archtop hardshell case.
