Tyler Guitars Japan LA Studio Classic Black Ash HSS Secret/JTS5500 MN #J7006
Manufacturer's ID: J7006
What we say:
Tyler’s Japanese guitars are made by a small hand-picked team of artisans specially trained by James Tyler himself to produce instruments of extremely high quality. Originally intended as a line of Japanese market only guitars, the resulting quality was so impressive that they rolled out international production. Having said this, production numbers are still extremely limited in order to keep the quality meticulously high.
The Japanese Studio Classic model is so close to the guitar you’d buy out of the Los Angeles workshop it almost defies belief! They’ve really nailed that superior feel and ultra-tight fit & finish.
The neck join is something that Tyler guitars are famed for and this Japanese model follows tradition proudly. This continues to all aspects: the carve of the body, the neck, the fretwork, the hardware…this guitar lives up to the lofty reputation of Tyler guitars.
Those familiar with the USA made Studio Classic will be on familiar ground here: the H-S-S layout of pickups with the JTS5500 single coils and a Secret humbucker provide that wide palette of top quality tones with all the detail and articulation you expect. A quartersawn Maple neck with a Compound Radius Maple fingerboard allows the magic to happen! We are also glad to see the proper Tyler logo on the headstock, a supreme sign of confidence in these Japanese models.
Significantly, the famous mid-boost circuit is included too. Turned on with a small button and controlled via a knob that replaces the typical 2nd tone control, this midcoast is excellent for adding ‘production’ to your sound: your tone fills out and compresses to give you a live sound that is very slick and professional sounding. This is a major asset both in the studio and on the stage.
This Japanese classic is finished in Black. A 3 layer white pickguard provides contrast and definition to the design.
We are extremely impressed with this guitar: it is a Tyler Black Classic in every respect! If you require a professional grade instrument with a plethora of top drawer sounds at the very summit of S-style guitar building, proceed with full confidence and excitement!
SpecificationJames Tyler started out doing custom guitar work and repairs in the early 1970’s. His reputation grew by word of mouth up through the later 1980’s and early 1990’s when a lot top session players and artists in the Los Angeles studio scene trusted him to give them exactly what they needed. He listened to his customers and pushed the limits by constantly seeking what could be improved. This kind of hands-on experience with thousands of guitars and an exclusive clientele has given James keen insight into how things work, and what players want.
