What we say:

Finlayson guitars is a new and exciting range of superb acoustic guitars, designed in collaboration with esteemed luthier Billy Finlayson and industry titan Robert Godin of Godin guitars.

This range of guitars, designed in Scotland and handcrafted in La Patrie, Canada, is a WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Godin do not make guitars for anybody else so this unique collaboration is unprecedented and extremely special.

Part of the reason that Finlayson guitars sound so good is the use of Adirondack Spruce for the inner bracing. Bracing forms and shapes much of the guitar’s voice & projection so using Adirondack Spruce, which is the strongest and lightest species of Spruce, is a massively important part of the process.

The Finlayson guitars range has been a long time in the making: exhaustive efforts have been made to ensure that playability, sound quality, beauty and value have all been met to a stringently high standard. Every guitarist looking for a quality electro acoustic needs to try out this incredible new range: Finlayson guitars set the standard.

The Finlayson 5 series brings outstanding quality and craftsmanship to an eminently affordable level. Each of the guitars in this collection (there are 4 separate models including a nylon string model) are expertly made and feature Solid, pressure-tested tops with a three-laminate ply of Wild Cherry for the back & sides.

Additionally, each Finlayson 5 series guitar is fitted with a Fishman Sonitone pickup (with soundhole controls for volume & tone) so ensure that each of these beautiful guitars is ready for the stage as soon as you buy it!

With a great selection of models and some beautiful finish options available, the 5 Series from Finlayson is the perfect blend of quality, tone, timeless style and excellent value.

The Finlayson F5CE is a beautifully produced Folk-sized guitar with a venetian cutaway built in to the body for easier upper fret access. This lovely electro acoustic uses solid Spruce for its top: this popular wood lends a bright liveliness to the guitar’s tone. This guitar works well with strumming and has a particular flair for fingerpicked pieces of music.

Playability is easy and comfortable with a neck profile that feels good in the hand: not too slim. The 24.84” scale length eases the tension on the strings a little for an easier play. A nut width of 43.6mm is great for fans of complex chord voicings since there is a little more room available for fretting.

This guitar has been finished in a beautiful Natural varnish that is semi-gloss, semi-satin. This compliments the wood well and has a tasteful, rootsy appearance.

The FInlayson F5CE is a perfect choice for gigging acoustic players who like to strum and pick their way through a set: it’s a handsome instrument that sounds clean, clear and confident.

Top Spruce ( Select Pressure Tested Solid Top )

The only reason I didn't give it five was that I consider the action to be a tad loo high for my liking (due to the bridge being too high) for fingerstyle. Which is what Findlayson promote the guitar as. Probably great for flatpicking though. Once I get that sorted out, I will give it five.

Great guitar. Really well made and nicely set up, playable straight out of the box. Sounds lovely whether played acoustically or plugged in.

Michael F. - 17/6/2020

The guitar is faultless, it looks and sounds terrific, even with my dodgy playing. Combining Godin La Patrie craftsmanship with Finlayson design has totally hit the bullseye.
