At its finest, in a considerably small package, powered by your typical 9V power supply, all analogue, hand stamped, pure sine wave oscillator, low-pass filtered with a touch of class and apparently musical. These are the requirements of warp speed space travel; a regular occurrence when dealing with Randy's hardware.

The lower oscillator frequencies create rich trem/vibe effects, excruciatingly slow or chopped up rhythmic flavours. As the frequency goes up, thick bells, tuned intervals, low-fidelity synth-like effects are only the beginning. Experimenting with the low-pass filter cutoff frequency and the dry/wet mix will yield tones as strange or subtle as desired.

Featuring expanded control voltage (CV) capabilities that allow for interactions beyond the simple stacking of effects, Randy can be used to control and be controlled by other CV capable devices. The stereo CV is switch-programmable for use with an expression pedal or as a 2-channel CV port. Both the oscillator and low-pass filter frequency are voltage-controllable. The internal oscillator is also available as an output, turning Randy into a stand-alone voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO).

As someone who has also had the Moog MF-102 as well as the MF Ring, I can safely say the Fairfield ring mod stands on its own. It covers at least 80% of the MF-102 functionality (lacking solely on the connectivity front), plus it takes up around 20% of the real estate. And it sounds fantastic, much warmer and sweeter than the Moog. Both units make a great tremolo pedal as well but to me Randy's Revenge is better at it. It makes you want to have tremolo on all your tracks. And one final point. Famously, the same ring mod that decades later ended up as MF-102 was used in the 1960s to create the voices of the Daleks. Could they have used Randy's revenge if it had existed at the time? I reckon not - Randy's Revenge sounds way too beautiful for a Dalek.

Amazing ring mod, took the leap and don't regret it. Very musically and inspiring. Love the imprinted chasis and very easily used.
