Fender Mustang started out as an expansion of previous Fender "student models" such as the single pickup musicmaster and duo sonic and it was originally released in 1964. The guitar features classic Fender specs such as a maple neck with maple or rosewood fingerboard, typically a body made from Alder, Ash, or Poplar, and 2 single coil pickups. Unique features for the Mustang though include its very own vibrato system The Mustang, a short scale length of just 24" was a mainstay of the Fender lineup until it was discontinued in 1982. However, in the 1990's the Mustang saw revival with its reissue and more notably its popularity with the equally iconic Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. This cemented the Fender Mustang guitar as not only a cult classic for many, but an absolute mainstay in the Fender catalogue.

Condition Report

At guitarguitar, we award our used gear a grade from 1-5 according to its overall condition, with 5 being the best.

This item was appraised as follows:

Body: 3 out of 5 - Instrument has been used and shows evidence of its life in the forms of checking, chips and other superficial wear and tear. Metal parts and hardware may be mildly tarnished or stained and cosmetically imperfect.

Neck: 3 out of 5 - The frets have mild wear and/or pitting and may require profiling or replacement in future if the guitar is played extensively, although this work is not required immediately and the guitar plays and frets cleanly at present.

Additional Information: This Fender comes to us in fair condition for its age, with the nitro finish having checked nicely throughout the guitar, with some dings and small chips being present too. There has been a slight reaction on the back of the finish of the guitar, leaving a mark on the back of the guitar at around 2 inches long. The logo on the headstock is in great condition, with a very slight fade to the 'Fender' logo. The serial number on the back of the neck plate (L55527) dates this Mustang to Early '65. The neck is stamped 8th Jan 1965. Pickups are signed and dated 8th Feb 1965. Internally, the guitar is completely original, with its original pickups, switches, pots and capacitor. The guitar's hardware is completely original too, including the tuners, bridge and tremolo. The frets are low, but still have some life left in them, and show that the guitar has absolutely been played over the past 60 years since its manufacture.

This guitar has been restrung with D'Addario strings.
