This has to be one of the most amazing vintage Gibson bass guitars we've come across recently. The EB-2 model was the bass equivalent of the popular ES-335 semi-hollow guitar and proved to be a pivotal point in electric bass guitar design.
This example is from 1964, and shows many signs of use - always a sign of a great instrument from this era! All the hardware has developed a beautiful patina, which along with the natural ageing of the nitro finish gives the bass a classic character. The finish has worn away completely around the bass f-hole and also just under the G string, behind the 'Sidewinder' pickup. There is some very heavy buckle rash on the back, specifically around the top edge, which is through to the wood.
The neck and headstock have a fair amount of wear patches and some chips and dings, but nothing that effects the playability of the bass at all. The frets, although shallow, have lots of life left in them yet.
All electrical components are original, but at somepoint the 'Baritone' switch has been re-wired to serve as a mute switch, rather than the original bass frequency boost function.
The machineheads have been replaced with Gibson branded open gear ones at somepoint, the strap buttons have been changed to modern ones, there's no scratchplate included although the screws are still in the screwholes, and the bass comes with a non-original gigbag.
Restrung with D'Addario NYXL 45-105 strings.
