Frequently Asked Questions
A. The first thing is to choose if you’d like to trade your old gear against something else we have in stock, or just want to sell it to us outright. Once you’ve decided, simply follow the appropriate link at the top of our main Trade It. Sell It. page and fill in the enquiry form with as much information as you can. This is then submitted to our friendly and experienced pre-owned sales team who will get back to you with a valuation of your gear within 24 hours. If you are happy to accept the valuation then the next stage is to get your old equipment from you and your new gear or payment to you as soon as possible. You can choose your local store in the initial enquiry form if you are trading your item with us, which will allow us to make sure your new item is all ready for collection at a time of your convenience. Alternatively, we will transfer cash buy-ins directly to your bank account. This is often the next working day however it could take up to five working days.
All quotations are subject to an in store inspection and we retain the right to change or withdraw our offer should goods be found to not be in an acceptable, or previously agreed condition.
A. We’re generally happy to take most guitar related equipment as a potential trade or buy in. Items should be in good working order i.e missing guitar strings or tremolo arms are fine, but a guitar with a broken headstock or an amplifier with no output will be rejected.
Most electronic goods will be considered, but things like headphones, microphones and in-ear monitors etc. will be refused for hygiene reasons.
Any electronic or digital items with accompanying software will also not qualify as a suitable piece of equipment to trade or sell to us. We will only accept guitars or effects pedals via post, no PA equipment or amplifiers due to their size.
A. If you don’t live beside one of our UK-wide branches, then we can discuss the best method to get your equipment to us. When you send us an item for trade or sale, it is very important to pack your item securely for a courier delivery and make sure it has all relevant accessories included. Items not packed securely could easily be damaged in transit.
guitarguitar accept no responsibility for your equipment until it has been safely delivered to our premises, unpacked and checked upon arrival.
Once the item has arrived, we will confirm receipt of delivery with you and validate or adapt our initial offer accordingly, after our inspection of the item. All quotations are subject to this store inspection and we retain the right to change or withdraw our offer should goods be found to not be in an acceptable, or previously agreed condition.
A. We will consider the condition, age, current market value (how much is a new like-for-like one?) and desirability of the equipment (how quickly is it likely to sell?) when arriving at your offer.
We understand that in many cases an item could have a sentimental value attached, but unfortunately this isn’t something we can take into account when valuing your piece.
A. If we have made an offer to you, it has been accepted by you and an item arrives with us, either in store, or having been sent in to us and is found to be different from the initial description as submitted on our online enquiry form, we will still consider the item for trade in, but will have to adjust our valuation accordingly.
We reserve the right to withdraw our offer and reject any item at this point, as you reserve the right to terminate the deal with no obligation to continue forward with any transaction.
If you request for your equipment to be returned, it carries a charge of £11.79. We do not profit from this, it is used to cover the insured return courier carriage and any additional packaging used.
A. If you are selling an item to us in store, we can often offer cash up to the value of £200 from any of our branches.
Any amount over this will be paid via secure bank transfer to an account of your choice within five working days (usually much quicker).
We require two forms of identification from you at this point - one photographic form (driving licence, passport, student card) and one proof of name and address issued no more than three months (utility bill, council tax book, bank statement).
We do not retain your details.
If you have no local store and have sent us your goods for sale, payment will be made via secure bank transfer on acceptance of our offer.
A. Once we have received your initial enquiry, a member of our team will get in touch with you within 24 hours.
If we have enough information to make you an offer and you accept it, then depending on where your chosen trade item is (you may be in Birmingham, but the guitar you really want is in Edinburgh) then we can have your deal ready and waiting for you to proceed with in two or three days.
If your chosen guitar happens to be in your local branch already, then we could have the deal done by lunchtime! We’ll always keep you updated on the progress of your transaction and we’re available to discuss the procedure with you seven days a week.
You can also Sell or Trade your old equipment in person in all of our stores
