About Guitar Necks

Guitar necks come in wide a range of shapes and styles. They are an incredibly important factor when it comes to how comfortable a guitar is to play. Brands such as Fender produce guitar necks which allow you to replace a worn or broken one, upgrade to a better neck, or change to a different shape. A very popular guitar neck shape is the C shape, which allows for easy rhythm and lead playing. A large amount of electric guitar necks are made from maple but other woods such as rosewood and mahogany can also be used. Fingerboards on guitar necks are often made from maple, pau ferro, or rosewood. They also come with a range of radius sizes and the number of frets can also vary. It is an essential guitar part and should not be overlooked, making these neck choices well worth considering.

Why Should I Choose a Guitar Neck?

  • Official branded guitar necks from brands such as Fender
  • A great way to upgrade your instrument
  • Allows you to change neck shapes and fingerboard options

Frequently Asked Questions about Guitar Necks

Question: What is the most comfortable guitar neck?
One of the most comfortable guitar neck shapes is the C shape. Many brands use a C type shape as it fits the hand well for chords and solos. Each guitarist has their own preference though so we recommend coming into one of our stores and finding out which neck feels best for you.
Question: Does guitar neck wood affect tone?
Yes, the woods that a guitar is made from affect the sound and resonance of the instrument. While the body wood arguably plays a bigger part in the tone character of the guitar, the neck still helps to shape the overall sound of the instrument.
Question: Is a wider neck guitar easier to play?
Some guitarists can find a wider neck easier to play as it means chords can be easier to play and move between since the extra distance stops your fingers from being so close together. For other guitarists, a narrower neck is preferred, so we'd recommend coming into one of our stores and trying out some options to find which one feels best for you.
