About Jackson Soloist

The Jackson Soloist is the other leading Superstrat model offered by Jackson alongside the Dinky. There are now a few different iterations of the Soloist with slightly different shapes, different specs and so on. The important distinguishing feature of the Soloist is the neck-through construction. This adds strength and stability to the famous Superstrat design as well as sustain and resonance to the tone.

The Soloist is one of the electric guitar models that really put Jackson guitars on the map during the mid 80s hair metal peak. Californian guitars with sharp looking headstocks defined the era. They have been the calling card of Jackson guitars ever since. The Soloist is an apt name. High powered pickups, a locking whammy bar, 24 frets on a flat radius fingerboard and a body design that gives easy upper fret access all combine to provide technical players with an unsurpassed platform to base their technique. Bold graphic finishes and bright colours are part of the deal too...these are not guitars for timid players!

As a major authorised Jackson dealer, we carry a large collection of Jackson guitars, including Soloist models. They are available at our guitarguitar stores at all times as well as here online.

Frequently Asked Questions about Jackson Soloist

No. Unfortunately the neck-through construction involved in manufacturing a Jackson Soloist guitar is too expensive to include in the cost effective JS range. The Soloist appears in every other Jackson range, though. For a similar shape, try the JS Dinky models.
The radius of a fingerboard relates to how curved the surface is. A vintage style fingerboard will have a very curved radius of 7.25". More modern guitars have flatter fingerboards, hence a higher number in inches. Most Jackson fingerboards are what we call 'compound radius'. They start at the already quite flat 12" and actually flatten out gradually to 16" at the top frets. This ensures that advanced techniques such as sweep picking are easier to execute.
We recommend you begin your search with the Jackson X Series Soloist SLX. This model fully delivers on what you are seeking!
'Neck-through' refers to the way in which the guitar is put together. This is completely different from the standard 'bolt-on' method of construction. With a bolt-on guitar, the body and the neck are made as separate pieces and then joined via 3 to 5 large screws (not actually bolts) at the heel of the neck. With a neck-through guitar, the neck section (often made up of numerous long pieces of wood glued together symmetrically) carries on through the entire length of the guitar. This forms the centre part of the whole instrument. The body is then completed by the addition of two extra 'wing' sections of wood added to either side of the body area.
The Standard Soloist body is 7/8 the size of a standard Superstrat, just like the Dinky.
