Polar Pattern
The NTG2 utilises a Supercardioid polar pattern that's great for filming situations. Its long and narrow reach means that you capture the sound of what your camera is looking at and less of your general surroundings.
Got the Power
Being a condenser, the NTG2 does require power, this can be supplied via phantom power from your desk or audio interface, or by using an AA battery in the mic. This means that the mic is comfortable for use in the studio and outside.
