Manufacturer's ID: KH-202 BLK
What we say:
The KH-202 is the most affordable version of Kirk Hammett’s famous skull n crossbones guitar. A high performance model with a sharply reversed headstock, this dark-hearted axe is perfect for players on a tight budget who still want to cop some of that ‘Black album’ attitude!
This model is a bolt-on S-type with 24 frets, two humbuckers and a Floyd Rose Special locking trem. It is designed for pyrotechnic soloing so the Maple neck has a thin U carve to support speedy playing!
The frets are Extra Jumbo and of course the Rosewood fingerboard is festooned with those wonderful pirate flag Skull & Crossbone inlays.
The pickups on this guitar are high output passive units. Keeping the circuit passive helps keep the costs down but these humbuckers are a step up from generic stock pickups: you get a fantastic crunch out of these and they pick up harmonics from Floyd Rose techniques really well.
Speaking of which, the Floyd Rose Special tremolo performs well and tuning, once strings are stretched and settled, is firm.
The KH-202 will satisfy all Metallica fans and indeed shred fans who can’t quite stretch to the through-neck and EMG-equipped KH-602: this is a very tasty choice.
