One of Fender’s most legendary amplifiers, the Bassman has been around long enough to witness the original wave of Rock ’n’ Roll, the studio recordings of Jimi Hendrix and countless other iconic moments throughout the history of the electric guitar.
Fender have recreated the Bassman in all its inimitable charm with this excellent reissue. Although the Bassman made its bow in 1952, this model is based on the blonde tweed 1959 version.
The Bassman is, in this most famous iteration, a 4x10” combo with two channels and four inputs. In the beginning, the Bassman was designed (as the name suggests) for amplifying Fender’s Bass guitars but musicians quickly wised up to the truth that the Bassman made most any instrument sound excellent: be it electric guitars, pedal steels, even harmonicas! These days we’d say that it can be an interesting and useful sound for bassists but is much better suited to guitars. The large, rich, touch-sensitive tube tone is a marvel to experience.
This reissue has a pine cabinet, just like the originals. It is covered in classic gold and brown tweed and lacquered for a strong and beautiful vintage-toned look.
This all-tube amp runs at 45 loud watts and drives four ten inch Jensen P10R alnico magnet speakers, again a nod to the originals. The power tubes are 6L6’s and the rectifier is also tube. It’s vintage class all the way!
The Fender Bassman is an undisputed classic and this reissue is worthy to bear the great name.
