About Valve Amps
Valve Amps are electric guitar amplifiers that are used today and have been used for many years in the world of guitar players. They are high powered loud amps which are available in different varieties including pre-amp, head and combos. Valve amps are also referred to as 'tube amps' as they are made using thermionic valves which are vacuum tubes, these increase the amplitude or power of a signal which gives the amplifier its projective sound. Valve amps have a power rating in watts, which relates to the volume that they produce so the higher the power the louder the amp. Valve amps are great for guitarists performing in large venues and big gigs as they can be powerful and very loud.
The popularity of valve amp doesn't just come from their power but their tonal characteristics as well. valve amps produce rich sounds that respond with the guitar to give an organic feel which many players prefer compared to amp alternatives such as solid state transistor amplifiers. These recognisable valve tones make them good for recording and have been used on countless tracks. Valve guitar amps are also known for producing a clean sound at lower volumes but distorting at higher volumes, making them ideal for overdrive sounds which blues and rock players have favoured for years, making valve amps their selected amplifier of choice.
The thrilling aspect of valve amps is how they respond to the dynamics of your playing. They feel like a living companion to your music rather than a sterile accessory.
