What we say:

This excellent left-handed semi-acoustic from Ibanez is part of their Artcore brand. Ibanez Artcore guitars are a credible and sensible choice for players who may be on a budget but still want a good quality and well finished hollowbody instrument. They are affordable but they aren't 'cheap' versions of more expensive models: they are their own range with their own feel, vibe and sound and that add a lot to the integrity of the Ibanez brand.

The AS93FML is a left-handed Artcore Expressionist model, which means that is has a specially sculpted ‘Expressionist’ neck carve and a set of PAF-style Ibanez Super 58 pickups. Considering the cost of this instrument, it’s pretty safe to say it blows away the competition.

The Violin Sunburst finish body has Flame Maple veneers and plenty of multiple-ply binding on the front and back to really make a statement. This is aided further by the gold hardware and beautiful bound Ebony fingerboard, inlaid with large pearloid blocks. It is immediately obvious that this is a guitar of quality.

Happily, this quality extends to the playability and sound, too. That Expressionist neck profile is a gift: it’s a very happy medium between slim and substantial. The weight distribution across the whole instrument is really good, making for a very capable and confident guitar to play on.

Sonically, lots of ground is covered by those Super 58 pickups. Jazz and Blues are definitely a forte, but so is Rock and Indie! It’s just a great sounding guitar with nice warmth and sustain.

Ibanez do it again with an affordable guitar that exceeds the sun of its parts rather effortlessly. We highly recommend the AS83FML.

The Expressionist difference? Jazz fans will recognize the Ibanez original Super 58 pickups-the preferred pickup of George Benson, Pat Metheny and John Scofield on their own Signature models. A jazz favorite, yes, but as funk guitarist Eric Krasno has been proving, the Super 58s perform well in a variety of situations. Warm, balanced articulation, and excellent response characterize the Super 58 pickups.
