What we say:

At A Glance

The Epiphone ES-339 Pro is a semi-acoustic perfect for players who are more accustomed to playing smaller bodied guitars like the Les Paul. This is a reduced size ES-335 dot with the same comfortable neck dimensions and easy fret access. However, there are a couple of nice additions to make this instrument a real individual. The pickups have been upgraded to great sounding bluesy Alnico Classics which brings to mind the best PAF's of the vintage era. It doesn't stop there though: the ES-339 also has coil splitting circuits to convert the humbuckers into single coils. In other words, this guitar is a Dot that fits in a regular gig bag and has humbucker girth AND single coil glass. A highly versatile design in a classic style.

Features We Love:

Alnico Classic Pro Humbuckers

Designed around a classic tone we all know and love, these pickups deliver the goods. The Alnico V magnets give a slightly higher output so the modern player has no problem with cutting through. The mids and highs come through particularly well. They can easily handle a number of styles.

Coil Splitting

Let's face it, most people who look at this model will be after it because it has a pair of humbuckers. With that being said, most people also have a wide variety of taste and appreciation. The coil splitting opens up a whole new tonal world so if you fancy playing something a little different or want to broaden your sound arsenal later on then the option is there without any hassle achieving it.

Smaller Body

While you may be more familiar with the ES-335, some people can find getting used to the bigger body size of it a bit difficult. Whether you are a younger guitarist or smaller in size, the ES-339 makes getting to grips with a semi-acoustic that bit easier. For this reason it also lends itself well to any guitarist who is on the go a lot due to the compact size making it extremely easy to carry.

Pros:

  • Smaller body for those more familiar with a Les Paul size
  • Perfect for a first semi-acoustic
  • A good choice for musicians on the move due to its easily transportable size
