What we say:

At A Glance

The Classic Vibe series from Squier captures the style and sounds of previous decades and brings them to the contemporary player at an impressive price point. The 70s Jazz Bass V has numerous vintage style features and a quality that far exceeds the price point. From top to bottom, this is a well made instrument with some great player friendly features. A C shape neck and 9.5" radius makes it easy to play while the Fender Designed pickups produce a full array of great tones. The block inlays stand out nicely from the fretboard and add to the classic 70s look. This is a great option if you are looking for a 5 string bass with a lot of flexibility.

Features We Love:

Vintage Style Features

This Jazz Bass benefits from a number of vintage style features. With 1970s inspired headstock markings, a vintage tint gloss neck finish and vintage style tuners, this is a guitar that blends the old school stylings with a functional and enjoyable playing experience.

Fender Designed Pickups

The dual alnico single coil pickups do an excellent job of capturing every nuance in your playing. Whether you prefer the natural sound of finger style playing or the attack of a pick, Fender have designed these pickups so they articulate your playing regardless of how you perform.

Vintage Style Bridge

Keeping with the 70s vibes is the vintage style bridge. The slotted barrel saddles give excellent tuning stability and ensure that the strings stay where they should be, allowing you to concentrate on your playing.

Pros:

  • Full of 70s charm and style
  • Well articulated tones from Fender Designed pickups
  • Excellent value for money

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4/5 (2 reviews)

If you’re looking for a 5 string bass it’s a solid guitar, nice neck and plays well and there were no quality issues. I have one issue it might be I need more time to get used to it but the sound doesn’t wow me. For the money it’s alright but I would definitely recommend checking some others out including the music man sterling sting ray sub 5, you can get it in 2 humbuckers or 1 and is very versatile. That said it’s also a very solid base for upgrading which I have seen quite a few videos on YouTube where they change the bridge for a high mass bridge, it just bolts straight on and change the pickups to Seymour Duncan’s, and me, for the same reason the pickups just don’t wow me, don’t get me wrong it’s perfectly usable but just doesn’t blow me away, I know right? What do you expect for the money but I prefer the tones from my squire pj bass, and the only other issue I have is the top and low strings are very close to the edge of the neck and so replacing the bridge and maybe then the nut would help, and the string spacing is better on the music man. So to conclude good bass for the money, good build quality, pickups don’t blow me away but with a bit of playing with the tone controls and pickup mix perfectly ok but just ok, and that’s why it can be so important to get to a store and try them out, but if like me you live in the middle of nowhere that’s not easy to do.
