Manufacturer's ID: FGX5

Inspired by our iconic 'red label' guitars of the 1960s, our new FG Red Label folk models blend modern inspiration with a timeless design. Featuring a classic semi-gloss finish and high-quality components, FG Red Label guitars capture an authentic vintage aesthetic.

The mahogany back and sides are paired with a premium Sitka spruce top which has been treated with our Acoustic Resonance Enhancement ('ARE') process for genuine aged-wood tone and sustain. A new scalloped-bracing design delivers plenty of volume, while the groundbreaking Atmosfeel three-way pickup system provides a natural acoustic sound when amplified.

Specification

ARE: Acoustic Resonance Enhancement

Our proprietary and exclusive Acoustic Resonance Enhancement ('ARE') treatment uses a carefully-controlled environment where heat, humidity and atmospheric pressure are altered to accelerate the natural ageing of the tonewood, removing imperfections and unwanted moisture in a process which would literally take years otherwise. ARE gives an instrument a rich, vintage-quality tone, producing a sound as if you've been playing it for years.

Atmosfeel Pickup System

The Atmosfeel 3-way pickup & preamp system uses a piezo sensor in the bridge to capture low frequencies, a microphone for low and mid range and our proprietary contact sensor pickup for high frequencies. The result is a full, natural sound with simple controls which make it easy to get a great plugged-in tone.

With the Microphone Blend control fully clockwise, the signal is approximately 50% mic and 50% the combination of the piezo and contact sensor. When fully counterclockwise, the mic is removed from the signal.

The microphone sound particularly compliments solo performers and chordal players, while a lower blend may be preferred by finger-style players and guitarists who need to cut through the sound of a full band.

The Bass knob controls a peaking EQ. The centre frequency raises when boosting and lowers when attenuating, so that low frequencies which could be problematic on stage can be removed but never added.

What an amazing guitar this is, honestly I have played 8 or 9 Taylors and a couple of Martins in a local guitar shop and they don't even come close to the tone of this red label guitar. Just when i thought it couldn't get any better I plugged it into an amp and added a little reverb to a clean setting, simply amazing!

The Yamaha FGX5 Red Label is a great guitar. Made in Japan just like the originals but with improvements to the bracing and pickup system - which is the best I have heard! I bought the guitar as I stupidly sold my ?The FG? Limited. These new Red Label FGs are even better! If you?re considering, it?s definitely worth going for the Japanese 5 series over the Chinese made 3?s. Not a huge difference in price but massive difference everywhere else.
