What we say:

At A Glance:

The PRS SE Custom 24-08 Eriza Verde gives you many of the same features as the SE Custom 24 with expanded switching options. Two mini-toggle switches allow you to individually tap each pickup resulting in eight switching options. The humbuckers themselves have also been upgraded to the PRS designed TCI S series.

Drawing heavily from its big brother's concept, the SE version of the Custom 24-08 still retains its ability to deliver high performance and reliability. This model showcases a laminate flame top accented by the Eriza Verde finish. The thick maple cap under the veneer gives you the same sonic benefits whilst retaining its affordable nature. Proudly wearing its bird inlays, SE Custom 24-08 has had to earn the right to be branded by Paul Reed Smith.

Overall, the SE Custom 24-08 is a diverse piece of equipment that has been built to produce a vast collection of voices.

Features We Love:

TCI S Pickups

TCI stands for Tuned Capacitance and Inductance pickups. Voicing a pickup is a balancing act between capacitance and inductance. The issue is when you change one, you also affect the other. There are many ways to change these factors, for example, pickup construction, materials used, or gauge of wire, to name a few. PRS have found a set way to tune their pickups to sound how they want them to sound. This idea sounds simple, but in a world where numerous small factors can have significant implications on the sound, it is a precise and sought after process.

Expanded Switching Options

The SE Custom 24-08 implies one of its unique features in its name. The two mini-toggle switches allow you to tap each humbucker individually, resulting in eight possible switching options. The outcome is a diverse exhibition of sound at your fingertips. This innovation, combined with the TCI pickups separates the SE Custom 24-08 from the SE Custom 24.

Wide Thin Neck

The neck is where most of the playability of the guitar is decided. PRS have thought meticulously about the shape and feel of the necks they offer. This guitar sports a Wide Thin neck. This neck gives you a thin profile with a wide fretboard, a combination championed by fast players. The maple neck is given a gloss finish and is capped with a rosewood fretboard.

Highlights:

  • Mini toggle switches give you expanded switching options.
  • PRS designed hardware makes for a reliable instrument.
  • TCI S Pickups give you great sounds in every switchable position.

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4.8/5 (5 reviews)

The guitar sounds and looks good. Playability is very good. The pickups are good, they do sometimes pick up unwanted noise though.

As an owner of the PRS SE Paul’s Guitar, I wondered if the Eriza Verde was worth buying. It appeared at first glance that the only difference was the addition of a tremolo. It was indeed worth buying. It is an evolutionary step forward in all areas - especially build. The body finish, fretboard and frets, I felt, showed and improvement on the Paul’s Guitar. Soundwise, it still had those wonderful and varied tones from the TCI pickups. Tuners seem to have been improved with the guitar staying in tune even when using the tremolo. All in all, a purchase that I’m glad I made.
