Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4.5/5 (2 reviews)

Brilliant service from GuitarGuitar - very helpful in letting me demo in their Camden store before a painless online purchase with them. So, the Positive Grid Spark Live. This is pretty singular piece of kit in that it's basically a PA/FRFR cab with 3 inputs (it's really instrument at the front, instrument/mic at the back and stereo in) and some hefty digital processing. The good? It's small, sounds great, versatile and can run off a battery. It's one of the very, very few things that can do what it does and I really enjoy using it as a bass practise amp and messing around on guitar. The app is great, there is more functionality than I can ever use so it suits me... but... the bad... it's definitely not a pro piece of kit. It doesn't feel resilient in the way something like a Roland Cube Street does, but it sounds better. I think the digital inputs are very cheap as it's noisy. Really noisy. If I run my bass through a high quality pedal like a Darkglass even with distorion there's little hiss, but this then is HISSY. I don't mind but if that's likely to bother you then beware. I think the main reason this isn't a pro piece of kit though is that while I'd happily rehearse with it, take it to a jam or a cafe fun gig I'd be reluctant to rely on it. You NEED the app to adjust a lot of controls and there's no DI out so you can't feed it into a PA but that's not what this thing is about. Given the size, versatility, sound and price it's really good, but be aware of its limitation in case those are a problem. I'm afraid I've not used it with other musicians yet so hard to give you an idea of how it holds up in a live situation, but I think it'll manage a rehearsal with a quiet drummer, maybe it'd struggle against a hard-hitting one.

A professional service from beginning to end. The free mic stand and mic were a bonus and one of the decisding factors. Thank you.
