The Les Paul™ Music City Special – 50th Anniversary is an updated, modern twist on two historical Gibson models, taking much of its inspiration from the '70s-era Marauder with a touch of the Music City Junior in its DNA. Over the years, the Marauder has been used by artists from Adam Jones to Paul Stanley. This unique commemorative model pays tribute to the early days of Gibson’s Nashville production and celebrates Gibson’s 50 years of producing world-class guitars in Music City while delivering outstanding value to modern players.

The lightweight, contoured body is solid poplar. The maple neck has a fast-playing and comfortable SlimTaper™ profile and is equipped with a striped ebony fretboard that is adorned with acrylic dot inlays and outfitted with 22 medium jumbo frets. The 12” fretboard radius makes first-position chords and string bends higher up the fretboard equally effortless. The hardware is chrome-plated, including the Nashville Tune-O-Matic™ bridge, aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece Grover® Mini Rotomatic® tuners, and output jack plate cover. A black 5-ply pickguard holds two Gibson '70s Tribute humbucker™ pickups, which are wired to an intuitive and comfortable control layout consisting of master volume and master tone controls with black Top Hat knobs and a three-way pickup selector toggle switch.

Customer reviews

Overall Rating 4/5 (1 reviews)

I bought this because I used to have a Gibson Marauder and this guitar uses the Marauder shape. It’s well-made and has a glued-in neck rather than the bolt-on version the original Marauder had. It’s much lighter than my Les Paul, which is a big consideration for me as I’m in my mid-sixties and recovering from a broken hip. I wasn’t a fan of the pickups - neither the open-coil look nor the aggressive sound they produced (although someone else might think they’re great), so I changed them for some lower-output, vintage-style covered humbuckers and that’s much more the sound I prefer. It comes with a pretty impressive, well-padded Gibson branded gigbag which again is better for me than lugging around a hard-shell case. It’s easier to find storage space for it too. I think the guitar is way overpriced. I’ve seen predictions that the price will quickly drop, but as there are only 650 of each of the three finishes available worldwide, I wasn’t going to take the chance and was prepared to pay the inflated asking price. I’ll be getting rid of my heavy Les Paul Standard to cover the cost.
