BRAND NEW: Fender Vintera II Road Worn GUITARS and BASSES!

4 Minute Read

There is nothing cooler in the guitar world than some wonderfully worn-in Fender guitars. The patina of age sits particularly well on old Leo’s designs, and it’s something Fender have been wise to for years now.

First, there were the Custom Shop Relic guitars, top-priced Fenders that were artfully bashed and distressed to simulate decades’ worth of playing and gigging. Some people don’t like them but these people are not the majority it would seem! They’ve been top sellers for 30 years now, which kinda tells you everything you need to know!

Road Worn

Not everybody can afford the cost of a custom built USA Fender Custom Shop guitar though. Recognising this, Fender then developed a term called Road Worn, which sought to bring that inimitable look and feel to Mexican-made instruments. Road Worn guitars use era-specific colours and are finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, which is then treated to a number of ageing processes to bring out a light ‘relic job’ to the body, neck and hardware. It’s a different look, a different feel and a total vibe for Fender fans.

Vintera II

Fender’s Vintera II range is a sort of vintage-facing mashup of features, intended to offer the player a guitar that looks and sounds classic, but has a few contemporary tweaks that make each model a bit more user-friendly in today’s world.

The term ‘Vintera’ comes from squishing together ‘Vintage’ and ‘Era’. Simple enough! The collection has featured Strats, Teles, Offsets and basses, all with period designations (50s Tele, 60s Strat etc) with finishes and specs that coordinate with their historical counterparts.

They are a perfect combination of classic cool and modern day usefulness!

This brings us to the new guitars! Let me introduce you to the brand new Fender Vintera Road Worn collection! These combine the features and specs of the Vintera collection, and add the distinctive feel and look of the Road Worn finishes. In general terms, they are like lovely replicas of Custom Shop guitars, but made in Mexico in production runs. This makes them a lot more approachable in price, and you even get a quality Fender Elite hard case!

The Models

So what is included in the range? Here’s a rundown:

Vintage Cool, Authentic Wear

Each Vintera II Road Worn guitar and bass is loaded with specially wound pickups to deliver an authentically vintage set of tones. Period detail is high:

  • The Jazzmaster has a proper JM saddle bridge
  • The Tele has 3 saddles, not 6
  • Each guitar has a vintage 7.25” fingerboard radius and 21 frets

These are all about vintage tones, vintage feel and a classic Fender experience. If you haven’t experienced the feel and vibe of nitrocellulose, I think you’ll love it! It makes a difference to the guitar’s overall character, in my opinion.

This small collection of Fenders is one of the most exciting that I’ve come across in a while! Give them a good try next time you’re in one of our stores: I think you’ll become quickly attached!
