The EVH Wolfgang Standard WG model is a highly engineered slab of rock built to exacting standards but priced very affordably so that all musicians looking for a slice of Eddie’s vision can join the party. This model has a tantalising slice of exotic Ziricote on top of the body for a beautiful upmarket look.
As we know, the EVH Wolfgang has been designed from the ground up by iconic Rock guitar maestro Eddie Van Halen. This model retains much of the style and operation of the more expensive models and it’s good to see that Eddie’s influence and famously rigid quality-control standards have been applied here too, not just the top dollar models.
This flat bodied beast has a Basswood body (Ed’s specific preference for tone) and contains a pair of Wolfgang humbuckers designed by Eddie himself. These puppies are certainly hot but not excessively so: they bite and sizzle but can clean up nicely, too. They are directly mounted to the body (no pickup rings) to transfer more energy and vibration from the wood to the pickup. This helps give Ed the tone he loves.
The EVH-branded double locking tremolo is stable and expressive, as you’d expect from the original dive-bomb master!
The neck is a speed freak’s dream: slim and comfortable with a great 12-16” compound radius fretboard to allow easy chording, mammoth stretches and uninterrupted tapping frenzies: the Wolfgang has been designed from the ground up as a pyrotechnic acrobat’s dream axe! As an added bonus, the neck is made from Baked Maple, something you don't often see at this price. Baking the Maple makes the wood lighter, drier and more resonant.
This affordable guitar is an excellent all rounder with performance and tone to spare.

Offering many of the blazing features as its more expensive brethren, the Wolfgang WG Standard features a basswood body with special “comfort cut” forearm contour for maximum playing ease, along with attractive masked-off natural body binding and an elegant and bold ziricote top. Its one-piece bolt-on baked maple neck with graphite reinforcement rods hold strong against the ravages of temperature and humidity, while a conveniently located spoke wheel at the base of the neck makes for quick and painless truss rod adjustments. Designed for comfortable playability and speed, the WG Standard also features an oiled neck back finish and a 12”-16” compound radius baked maple fingerboard with rolled edges, 22 jumbo frets and black dot inlays
Dual EVH® Wolfgang humbucking pickups mounted directly to the body increase vibration transfer, resulting in sustain for days on end. Two domed control knobs have been dialed-in to Van Halen’s exacting specifications—the smooth-feeling 500k pots make it easy to find a unique sound while retaining the crisp high-end sparkle of the Wolfgang pickups. The EVH-branded Floyd Rose® Special bridge and R2 locking nut consistently keep the instrument in tune through the deepest whammy dives and horse whinnies.
Decked out for playing performance and comfort, the Wolfgang WG Standard Xotic Ziricote also features a black headstock and black chrome hardware.
